Bring Back the Eel: Have Your Say

We are thrilled to announce that “Bring Back the Eel” is now live and open to the public until 31 October 2026.

The European eel is critically endangered. Once abundant in rivers across the Thames Basin, eel populations have declined dramatically in recent decades due to habitat loss, barriers to migration, and changing river conditions. Through the Thames Catchment Community Eels Project (TCCEP), we are planning exciting projects to restore rivers, protect wildlife, and connect more people with our waterways and their stories — and we want to hear from you.

Why your views matter

Your views will directly shape how we approach river restoration and wildlife recovery across the Thames catchment. What you tell us will help inform our plans for community events and activities, education and youth programmes, citizen science opportunities, heritage interpretation, and volunteering. We want to hear from people right across the Thames Basin — from urban neighbourhoods and rural communities alike, from regular river-goers and people who have never thought twice about their local waterway. Every voice counts.
